Space to think about you

Is Counselling for you?

Sometimes life feels tough.  Your thoughts and feelings can seem overwhelming.  Perhaps you have struggled with something most of your life or maybe a recent event has left you feeling unable to cope.  You may be considering therapy for a specific reason or perhaps because things don’t feel quite right.

Some clients ask whether their problems are “big enough” to come for counselling.  The answer is yes, absolutely!  No problem is “too small”.

If you are struggling and need space to think about you then therapy could help.

What's involved?

Coming for counselling may feel daunting.  I can offer you a calm, confidential space.  A space free from judgement.  A space where you can share your thoughts, feelings and experiences. A space where we go at your pace.

We will think together about your present difficulties but also your past experiences to understand how this has shaped who you are and how you relate to others.

You may want assurances - "Will therapy help me?", "How long it will take?".  Therapy can’t change your past or get rid of painful feelings but it can provide you with a space to acknowledge and understand your experiences.  A space to make sense of your past and to find meaning in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.  It can help to build greater self-compassion, a stronger sense of identity and improved relationships with others.  And with this comes a greater capacity to cope with whatever life might throw at you in the future.

About me

Choosing a counsellor is a big decision.  Finding someone you can trust, be vulnerable with and share your innermost thoughts and feelings.  I can offer you a calm, confidential space.  I will show a genuine curiosity and interest in your life experiences, and an empathetic, sensitive approach to exploring these experiences.

I am a qualified, experienced psychotherapist with a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in psychodynamic counselling.  I work from a quiet, discreet location in St Albans.  I am a registered Member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work to their standards for Good Practice and to their Code of Ethics.  I have full professional indemnity insurance.

Services and fees

Initial consultation:

This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other.

We will think about what has brought you for therapy and what you would hope to gain from therapy. You can get a better understanding of how I work and we can discuss any questions or concerns you may have.  The initial consultation lasts 50 minutes and is charged at £60.

Ongoing sessions:

We may agree to work together for a few weeks or months to focus on specific issues.  Or we may commence open ended, longer term work which allows us to explore in greater depth your past experiences and how they are impacting on your current life.  I typically work face-to-face but happy to discuss telephone or online therapy as an alternative. The weekly sessions last 50 minutes and I charge £60 per session.
